Mexican NASCAR driver Daniel Suárez is joining forces with NHTSA en español and the “Sin Llorar” podcast hosted by Hispanics John Laguna, Rodolfo Hernández, Claudio Suárez, and Mariano Trujillo, to share a message of road safety and prevention with the Hispanic community. Through these campaigns, they aim to raise awareness among young people about the dangers of distracted driving, texting behind the wheel, street racing, and speeding.
The data speaks for itself. According to the NHTSA, 3,208 people died in the United States in 2024 in crashes involving distracted drivers, while 315,167 people were injured in such accidents. Furthermore, sending or reading a text message can take your eyes off the road for about five seconds; at 55 miles per hour, that is like traveling the length of a football field with your eyes closed.
Speeding also has consequences. In 2024, 11,288 people died in speed-related crashes, and speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities. Among male drivers aged 15 to 20 involved in fatal crashes, 39% were exceeding the speed limit a statistic that underscores the importance of bringing this message to the next generation.
The mission of this partnership is to turn a safety message into a conversation that reaches young people where they are on social media, in the mainstream media, and on podcasts.
