In January, New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson sent a 10-second video to a 12-year-old fan stuck at Boston Children’s Hospital. On November 6, 2026, Henderson was the one asking for support, after revealing that unexplained neurological symptoms had put him in the hospital for several days.
The two moments sit ten months apart, and the first one says a lot about the player behind the second.
Ten seconds for his biggest fan
Jack, a young Patriots superfan facing serious health problems, had Henderson as his favorite player. At a late-season home game against the Buffalo Bills, he tried to get the rookie’s attention near the tunnel at Gillette Stadium and couldn’t, the Boston Herald reported.
Days later, Jack was back in the hospital. His family asked the Patriots’ communications staff whether Henderson could record a short message, and the team delivered. In the clip, which arrived on January 2, Henderson told him, “I just want to let you know that I am praying for you.”
Eleven days later, Jack went home. Henderson then posted on X that he was glad to hear it, the night before the Patriots’ playoff game against the Houston Texans. Jack had already answered the video with an invitation of his own: once he was out of the hospital, maybe they could play catch.
What Henderson shared this week
Now Henderson’s health is the story. In a statement released Friday, he described an unexpected medical emergency, said his test results had been positive and reassuring, and called the cause “unknown and unexplainable,” as ESPN reported.
He said the symptoms affected his strength and coordination, along with some physical functions, and that he will keep working with specialists and physical therapists. He thanked his wife, his teammates and the Patriots organization, and asked for prayers and privacy.
Henderson has not practiced since October 29 and was inactive for the Patriots’ win over the Miami Dolphins on November 1. Neither he nor the team has given a timeline for his return. According to the Herald, the Patriots could place him on the non-football illness list, which would keep him out for at least four games.
A fast rise, then a pause
The setback hits a player who moved quickly. A second-round pick out of Ohio State in 2025, Henderson set a Patriots rookie record with 5.1 yards per carry and played in Super Bowl LX in February, a 29-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Across 23 regular-season games, he has 1,114 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, per the Herald.
Back in January, Henderson was the one reminding a young fan that people were in his corner. This week, he asked for the same.
