A Turkey Stuffed with Hispanic Gratitude!

Thanksgiving is different when the Hispanic family is in charge of the menu.

Of course, there’s turkey…but beneath all that seasoning is the flavor of our homeland, because on this day, American traditions merge with their own roots. 🦃

That’s why, along with turkey, we can find tamales, arepas, rice and beans, tacos, pupusas, perrnil, pastelón, flan, and maybe a tres leches or two, because one isn’t enough. Every Hispanic flavor enriches the holiday and strengthens our cultures.

And yes, we’re still doing the classics: mashed potatoes, pie, but with a twist. A little chili here, a little cilantro there, and suddenly it’s no longer “traditional”… it’s ours.

Drinks of different flavors are placed next to the table: jamica flower water, made with tamarind but flavored with lemon, orchata water and watermelon water, refresh any palate. 🥧

For Latino homes, Thanksgiving is an act of gratitude for life’s blessings, manifested both in a religious sense and as a prayer of thanks to God, but also often showing love through food. The kitchen becomes a full-blown festival, while bachata, cumbia, and norteña music play with a band in the background, all looking for a space to cook and make their culinary contributions. And of course, there’s that aunt who swears her filling “is the best and has every bit of seasoning.”

For us Hispanics, Thanksgiving is much more than perfection. It is a day with a lot of family, full of abundance, around a lot of food, too many leftovers, just the way we like it. For all this, we hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving Day, with family and with God’s blessing.
