Karol G Gets Real in Netflix’s Tomorrow Was Beautiful: the Journey of a True Bichota

When Cristina Costantini first set out to film Karol G: Tomorrow Was Beautiful, she wasn’t interested in glam shots or glittery montages. “I didn’t want to make a commercial that screams, ‘It’s so cool and fun to be a pop star.” Instead, she and Karol G aimed for something deeper: a raw, real look at what it means to be a woman breaking barriers in reggaeton and the emotional rollercoaster behind the headlines, and the harassment of fans and not-so-fans on social media and on tabloid programs.

The result? A powerful new Netflix documentary that peels back the curtain on Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito tour, the highest-grossing stadium tour ever by a Latina artist.

From the start, Karol makes it clear, this isn’t a highlight reel. “As a role model, I don’t think it’s right to always act like I’ve got it all together,” she says. “Showing vulnerability is part of what this documentary means to me.” And she delivers. Whether it’s quietly reflecting in hotel rooms, crying with family, or speaking honestly about heartbreak, Karol lets us in and shows us her real life. Her very public split from Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA looms large as a turning point, pain that helped spark her chart-topping album Mañana Será Bonito.

From the Estadio neighborhood in Medellín to the World Stage. Born Carolina Giraldo Navarro in Medellín, Karol’s story starts with ambition, hustle, and a ton of family support. Childhood videos show her singing alongside her dad, Guillermo. Her mom, Martha, gave everything to support her dream, and her sisters, including Jessica (now her manager), helped build her career from the ground up.

The documentary doesn’t shy away from Karol’s darker chapters either like harassment from her former manager when she was just 16, the loneliness of living alone in Bogotá, and the depression she faced while starting over in the U.S. Thanks to her community and strong latin roots, she reached her goals.

“I know what it’s like to be far from home chasing a dream,” Karol tells a crowd mid-show. “And if I can bring a piece of home to you, I will.”

The documentary also explores the evolution of one of Karol G’s most iconic person La Bichota. The word, originally used in Puerto Rico to describe powerful (often male) figures, is now a badge of pride thanks to Karol’s bold redefinition.

“A bichota is someone who owns her story, her body, her business,” she explains. “She’s the most powerful one in the room.”

That energy radiates through every scene, from her all-female band rocking out to “Provenza” to her Billboard Woman of the Year speech, where she reflects on the years of rejection and doubt: “For so long, I asked why I wasn’t born a man…But I learned to say: I can because I’m a woman.”

Karol also opens up about her admiration for the late Selena Quintanilla, even sharing a tearful tribute onstage in San Antonio. “A real Karol G fan knows how much I love Selena,” she says, later meeting Selena’s sister Suzette in a full-circle moment.

Other scenes show the creative magic behind “TQG,” her long-distance collab with Shakira, as they swap lyrics and healing over heartbreak. In Karol’s words: “You have no idea what this means to me.”

But this isn’t just about fame it’s about purpose. One of the most powerful sequences shows Karol’s Con Cora Foundation helping Colombian students study at NASA. In addition to this, she sent a message to Latin migrants in Europe, thanking them for showing up and bringing their culture wherever they go.

She closes the documentary with a reminder of what really matters: “My culture has given me everything,” she says. “I owe it all to my Latin community.”

For all this and as true fans of Karol G, we have to see the documentary, which is a letter of love, of struggle, sisterhood, and owning your story. Whether you’ve followed Karol G from day one or you’re just meeting her now, this is your chance to see the human behind the icon.
