From Coding Kid to Industry King
Born in 1971 in Pretoria, South Africa, Elon started out as a tech nerd before it was cool. By 12, he’d already sold his first video game, Blastar. Fast forward a few years, he co-created Zip2, flipped it for nearly $300 million, and then co-founded what would become PayPal—aka the OG online payment system. Casual, right?
The Space Cowboy
With SpaceX, Elon had one goal: make space travel affordable so we can all pack our bags for Mars someday. He didn’t exactly nail it on the first try—there were three rocket fails in a row—but then Falcon 1 finally hit orbit in 2008. NASA was like, “Yup, this guy knows his stuff,” and the rest is history. Now SpaceX handles a ton of NASA’s projects.
Tesla, But Make It Cool
Elon didn’t just make electric cars a thing; he made them cool. Under his watch, Tesla went from “Wait, you want me to drive a golf cart?” to “OMG, I need a Model S.” From insane performance to eco-friendly vibes, Tesla flipped the script on what cars could be.
The Brain Guy
Then there’s Neuralink—his sci-fi-level project to create brain-computer connections. The idea? Help people with paralysis control devices just by thinking. Wild, right? Oh, and he’s also out here building underground traffic tunnels with The Boring Company, because why not?
