Canada Made History and the United States Shone at Home

The FIFA World Cup 2026™ continued to deliver special moments on June 12th with the debuts of Canada and the United States, two of the host nations.

In Toronto, a brief opening celebration kicked off a match that electrified Canadian fans. They celebrated two historic milestones: Canada hosting a World Cup championship for the first time, and Cyle Larin scoring a 78th-minute goal to salvage a 1–1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina, a match where Canada had been trailing since the 21st minute following a header by Jovo Lukić. Beyond the scoreline, the result itself will go down in history, marking Canada’s first-ever draw and first point in a men’s World Cup. 🇨🇦

Later, The FIFA World Cup 2026™ energy shifted to Los Angeles; following a brief opening ceremony, the U.S. team enjoyed a night defined by confidence and celebration. With a commanding 4–1 victory over Paraguay, the home team captivated the crowd from the opening minute and made a strong impression in their tournament debut. The event also featured a star-studded “red carpet” atmosphere, drawing luminaries from entertainment, politics, sports, and business including Tom Cruise, Owen Wilson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Anya Taylor-Joy, Sofía Vergara, Marco Rubio, Tobey Maguire, Justin Bieber, Becky G, David Beckham, Bill Gates, George Lucas, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, among others. Another interesting detail: while President Donald Trump did not attend the match in person, he called the coaching staff and players beforehand to offer his support. 🇺🇸
