At CES 2026, LEGO unveiled LEGO® SMART Play™, a platform that marks the brand’s biggest technological leap since the arrival of bricks and minifigures in 1978. For the first time, LEGO creations, in addition to being incredible, now react.
The innovation of LEGO SMART Play™ is that it combines traditional physical play with invisible, cutting-edge technology, without screens and without mandatory apps. Physical toys become interactive systems. Everything happens inside the brick itself. At the heart of this revolution is the LEGO SMART Brick, equipped with: 🎮

Internal speaker with synthesizer
Custom chip smaller than a stud
Wireless charging
Now, the constructions emit sounds, light up, respond to movements, and change their behavior depending on how you play. No coding skills needed, and no virtual reality involved. It’s just intelligent physical play; an open-ended, creative, and screen-free game. LEGO was very clear: “SMART Play doesn’t limit imagination, it empowers it.”
The smart bricks work with SMART Minifigures and SMART Tags. They are fully compatible with the traditional LEGO system, which means you can mix classic sets with SMART Play and create unique, dynamic, and reactive stories, where every action generates a different response. Instead of static builds, creations now respond in real time, turning play into a living, reactive experience. LEGO defines it as “responsive physical play” the game responds to you.
The first SMART Play sets transform iconic scenes into interactive experiences, with unlockable sounds, effects, and surprise moments. For its debut, LEGO chose a legendary universe Star Wars™. This release will delight collectors and all fans of the series. ⚔️
